Research Focus & Impact
Where software engineering, AI, and quantum computing meet
Housed in the School of Applied and Creative Computing (ACC) in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute (PPI), Purdue University, in West Lafayette and Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, the Purdue QCASE Lab focuses on research at the intersection of Software Engineering (SE), including Software Security; Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a concentration on the state of the art in machine learning, including Large Language Models and agentic AI; and Quantum Computing (QC), primarily Quantum Software Engineering (QSE) and Quantum AI (QAI).
The overarching themes of our research are AI4SE, including but not limited to AI for Software Security and Software Supply Chain Security, and SE4AI (i.e., Software Engineering for AI-Enabled Systems, an emerging field known as AI Engineering) for classical, quantum, and hybrid quantum-classical software systems. Supporting the software development process and enhancing the quality of software systems, including software-intensive systems with modern and emerging technologies and platforms, are very interesting to the Purdue QCASE Lab.
The research program in the Purdue QCASE Lab is at the heart of an organic, symbiotic ecosystem comprising the lab, classroom, and community. We value training, mentoring, and community impact. Formerly known as the QAS Lab, founded in August 2023 at the University of Colorado, the research program transferred to Purdue University in August 2026 with the move of its Director, Dr. Armin Moin, from the University of Colorado to Purdue University.
